Symptoms

Loud metallic rattle for 2-5 seconds on cold start-up.

Cause

Wear on the Variable Cam Timing (VCT) phaser locking pin due to oil starvation or extended intervals.

Official Fix

Update PCM calibration. If noise persists, replace all 4 VCT phasers (Part: ML3Z-6C525-A) and timing chains.

Master Tech Advice

Always pre-fill the oil filter with fresh oil before threading it on. This instantly builds oil pressure on the first start, drastically reducing wear on the fragile cam phasers.

Symptoms

Spongy brake pedal feel after aggressive off-roading.

Cause

Fluid boil due to extreme temperatures overworking the factory DOT 3 fluid.

Official Fix

Flush entire system using specialized pressure bleeder and upgrade to DOT 4 LV.

Master Tech Advice

Never push the caliper pistons back without opening the bleeder valve first. Forcing dirty fluid backwards will severely damage the ABS hydraulic control unit.

Symptoms

Misfires under heavy boost (DTC P0300-P0306).

Cause

Carbon tracking on spark plug porcelain or cracked insulator.

Official Fix

Replace spark plugs and ignition coil boots. Apply dielectric grease strictly to the inside tip of the boot.

Master Tech Advice

When replacing the AGM battery, you MUST reset the Battery Management System (BMS) using a bi-directional scanner, otherwise the alternator will overcharge and boil the new battery in months.
